The Baltic Opera Festival will conclude with a unique recital by Anett Fritsch, taking place on July 7, 2026. This intimate encounter with one of the most outstanding lyric sopranos of her generation – an artist equally at home in both operatic and song repertoire – will present a program combining music and the poetry of Heinrich Heine.
Anett Fritsch is among the most highly regarded singers on European opera stages. She regularly performs at venues such as the Opernhaus Zürich, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real, La Monnaie, and Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Her repertoire spans a wide spectrum – from Baroque, through Classical and Romantic works, to late Romantic repertoire and operetta.
A special place in her career is held by Mozart repertoire, in which she has created a number of outstanding roles: Pamina (The Magic Flute), Konstanze (The Abduction from the Seraglio), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), and the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro. Notably, she is among the few singers who have performed all three principal female roles in this opera – from Cherubino to Susanna to the Countess.
Her repertoire also includes bel canto and Romantic roles such as Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Mimì (La bohème), Marzelline (Fidelio), and Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites. At the same time, she successfully explores Baroque repertoire, appearing as Almirena in Rinaldo and Ginevra in Ariodante. She is gradually expanding into Wagner and Strauss roles, including Freia (Das Rheingold), Gutrune (Götterdämmerung), and Zdenka (Arabella).
In recent seasons, she has appeared as Idamante in Idomeneo at the Stuttgart Opera and as the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro on major European concert stages – from the Elbphilharmonie to the Philharmonie Luxembourg. She collaborates with leading conductors and ensembles, including the Il Giardino Armonico, the Basel Chamber Orchestra, and regularly appears at prestigious festivals such as the Glyndebourne Festival and the Salzburg Festival.
The recital at the Baltic Opera Festival will present Anett Fritsch in an especially intimate repertoire. The evening program, titled “Madame, ich liebe Sie!” (“Madame, I Love You”), is built around the poetry of Heinrich Heine – one of the most important poets of Romanticism, whose works inspired the greatest composers of the 19th century.
The program includes songs by Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, Fanny Hensel, Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. A special place is given to Schumann’s song cycles: Liederkreis, Dichterliebe, and Myrthen, which guide the listener through the full spectrum of Romantic emotions, from delight and ecstasy to disappointment and melancholy.
A distinctive feature of the recital is its dramaturgy – songs are interwoven with recitations of Heine’s poetry, creating a cohesive, almost theatrical narrative: from first declarations of love, through the experience of loss, to reflection and calm. The poems will be recited by the distinguished actor – Sven-Eric Bechtolf, while the pianist Florian Krumpöck will accompany the artist
