We begin at noon and finish at midnight – the word “marathon” therefore perfectly describes what awaits us on a summer day in July at Opera Leśna. However, we can’t describe this marathon with the word “film”; it simply doesn’t encompass all that’s being offered. In addition to films, there will be opera, music, workshops, talks, and meetings with artists … Can you finish this marathon with us?
A unique point of the marathon will be the opportunity to see the delightful, innovative production of Halka directed by Mariusz Treliński. The production had its premiere at the Theater an der Wien, where it was met with a standing ovation that lasted several minutes. The driving force behind the success of the Viennese production are the Polish soloists Piotr Beczała and Tomasz Konieczny. During his talk, Mariusz Treliński will tell you about the behind-the-stage details of this spectacular production.
Mariusz Wilczynski; the New York Times called him “one of the most important artists of modern animation.” You will get a chance to personally see how he works. The live screening will be accompanied by cellist Marcel Markowski, who will perform Jan Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suite in B minor and Tadeusz Nalepa’s Modlitwa. Don’t forget the animated film that will be created before your eyes is a one-of-a-kind performance; completely improvised; an experience unique to this marathon.
The intermedia artist Adam Dudek aims to synthesize different arts and works in many fields. His multimedia works have been presented in the Grand Theater – National Opera, Musikverein Wien, the Baltic Opera, and at the “Warsaw Autumn” festival. He also works with graphic design. He is the creator of the visual aspect of the Baltic Opera Festival. In Opera Leśna we will see his “Oblicze Morza” – five video episodes with five songs by Romuald Twardowski, accompanied by an extraordinary acting performance, singing by Tomasz Konieczny and a piano accompaniment by Lech Napierała.
Oscar-nominated Canadian, Larry Weinstein, will treat us not to a marathon, but to a sprint. We will watch his nine film miniatures in forty minutes. The award-winning director creates his miniature works, combining opera with film, music with technology, showing artistry, revealing his creative process and involving comedy actors and an opera diva. Each of his etudes is a picture full of the director’s specific sense of humor.
